Chelsea have announced the signing of versatile defensive midfielder Renato Vega from Basel. The Athletic reported last week that the two football clubs had agreed a fee of £11.8m (€14m), without any clauses for future transfers.
The 20-year-old Portuguese has signed a seven-year deal with the Blues, with the option to extend for a further 12 months. Which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until at least 2031 UFABET
“I’m very excited to be here,” Vega said.
“This is one of the biggest clubs in England, the biggest for me and I’m really excited to get started.”
Vega is capable of playing as a left centre-back, left-back or as a number 6 midfielder. And is expected to be used as an inverted full-back. And is seen as a good fit for Enzo Maresca, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino earlier this summer after leading Leicester to promotion last season.
Vega made 26 appearances in all competitions for Basel last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist. As he emerged from Sporting Lisbon’s academy before moving to Basel in 2023 after a loan spell at Augsburg.
Vega joins Chelsea this summer following Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guyu and Omari Kellyman.
Renato captained Portugal’s Under-20s side before moving up to the under-21s. He has featured in all seven of the side’s European Championship qualifiers for the 2025 edition.
